The spirit of Aloha and kokua are stronger than ever!

Food security is the most basic and urgent need individuals and families face in these unprecedented times. To help with COVID-19 relief efforts in our local communities, the Elite Charitable Foundation is launching a two week campaign to raise money for the Hawaii Foodbank (serving Oahu and Kauai), the Maui Foodbank, and the Hawaii Food Basket (serving the Big Island) working to distribute food to those in need. The Elite Charitable Foundation will match the first $20,000 in donations.

Hawaii Food Bank reports a 30% increase in need and rising demand following the statewide stay-at-home order implemented on March 25th. With more than 200,000 unemployment claims since the beginning of March, so many local families face a loss of income and food insecurity. With schools closed, many families throughout Hawaii who also depend on free or subsidized meals face additional, unprecedented hardship.

Your help is critical, as Hawaii's network of state food banks struggle to meet increasing demand in local communities while faced with shortages in donations and volunteers. Many of the largest food donors are businesses that have closed down - hotels, restaurants, various organizations and even grocery stores experiencing inventory shortages. Volunteers, many of whom are older, must protect their health and safety and can no longer help at this time.

All this means food banks across the country, including Hawaii Foodbank must be able to purchase food in order to meet the urgent and growing community demand.
